The biggest Puppet show you ever saw is being staged next month in the village of East Leake. East Leake Amateur Players (ELAPS) are busy, busy, busy with their Christmas production of Pinocchio.
Director Sue Hutton has spent the last 6 months creating a wonderful stage mix of fun, song, tears and dance in this great family tale of the most well known string-less puppet that ever was.
Going for “all ages” the production list and cast ranges from 8 to 80, and there’s a tune for everyone from modern pop, 70’s and 80’s pop to traditional panto songs that you’ll love singing or humming along to.
Pinocchio is a worldwide tale well known and loved by everyone no matter how young or old. The story is brought to life by a huge cast and chorus of local youngsters who have been rehearsing and working really hard since the summer.
A local favourite, the energetic Hayley Masom takes on the leading role of Pinocchio, supported by the continuous, charismatic, conscience of Mr Cricket played by another popular Elaps regular Ruth Allen. There are some talented newcomers in the guise of Nicky Spencer playing the loveable Gepetto and a rather matronly Fairy Blue played by Gill Bowness making her acting and singing debut.
There is a great array of evil baddies, watch out for the sadistic Mr Fire-eater, the thieving Mr Fox and the Puuurrfffect Miss Cat (one for the dads and granddads!).
Pinocchio is being performed at East Leake Village Hall on Thursday 5th, Friday 6th and Saturday 7th of December with performances starting at 7:30pm, with a 2:30 matinee on Saturday 7th. Tickets are available at East Leake Post Office (Monday – Sunday) costing £4.50 and £3.50 (concessions).
“Well my dears” come along with Mr Coachman – he’s a nice old jovial man and the Elaps chorus as they get mesmerised by the Funland. Here’s a great tip “Always look on the bright side of life” and you’ll soon be part of this fantastic puppets’ adventure.
