The
In The Wardrobe
Hi - I'm Madeline.
A couple of years ago, in response to an appeal for new members in the Echo, I contacted ELAPS offering to help out with the costumes and sew on the odd button.
How naive can one be?
Since then I have researched historical costumes;
designed, sketched and presented my own ideas;
cut, stitched and stapled;
made heavy use of the glue gun;
bent wire to strange shapes to form wings and head-dresses, then worked out how to balance them on the poor luvvies who had to wear them;
created a four-armed Venus, a Gryphon and a dog named Wuffles;
padded out bras and bustles for a couple of lovely Dames;
and scattered sequins and glitter with wild abandon.
And that's only the highlights.
During rehearsals I pounce on anyone who thinks (sometimes erroneously!) that they are not going to be needed for the next five minutes and haul them off for a quick session with tape measure or pins.
In short, then, it's all go and enormous fun.
So if any part of it appeals to you and you think you might like a slice of the action I should be delighted to show you some of the stuff we've done.
Or you might perhaps be interested in some of the workshops, which we run from time to time.
I look forward to seeing you at rehearsals.
Madeline
