Post Costume

  The Image In The Wardrobe

Hi - I'm Madeline.
A couple of years ago, in response to an appeal for new members in the Echo, I contacted ELAPS offering to help out with the costumes and sew on the odd button.
How naive can one be?
Since then I have researched historical costumes;
designed, sketched and presented my own ideas;
cut, stitched and stapled;
made heavy use of the glue gun;
bent wire to strange shapes to form wings and head-dresses, then worked out how to balance them on the poor luvvies who had to wear them;
created a four-armed Venus, a Gryphon and a dog named Wuffles;
padded out bras and bustles for a couple of lovely Dames;
and scattered sequins and glitter with wild abandon.
And that's only the highlights.
During rehearsals I pounce on anyone who thinks (sometimes erroneously!) that they are not going to be needed for the next five minutes and haul them off for a quick session with tape measure or pins.

In short, then, it's all go and enormous fun.

So if any part of it appeals to you and you think you might like a slice of the action I should be delighted to show you some of the stuff we've done.

Or you might perhaps be interested in some of the workshops, which we run from time to time.
I look forward to seeing you at rehearsals.
Madeline

Post Props

Image Like all members of the Production Team, Properties is a big job. Some plays are more "challenging" than others. Depending on when the play is set, you need to have the right furniture, personal props and costumes (see next item).

             ELAPs members try to help each other out and lend props for productions, so it is with respect that we need to look after these.Those who have done this job in the past have gone to junk shops, jumble sales, car boot sales etc to find the right prop for a production.Some props do need to be made. For example the anvil and large hammer in Babes in the Wood. Thankfully, we have members who have fantastic imaginations and the ability to make them.

If props cannot be found, then members of ELAPs are asked if they can
provide them. If not then it's all hands to the pumps.
Props is very important on the actual production nights.They make sure the furniture is in place, props are where they should be and the actors have their own personal props ready to go on. Why not give it a try?

Post Make up

ImageThis can be another demanding role for the Production Team.It could be that the Make-up Team will just do a straight face.Another time they will be asked to put on bruises, scars and make someone's face look like a dog or dame. Some cases,
very challenging.

The make-up is specially made for the theatre.It is heavier that normal day to day make-up as it needs to be seen from a distance.Sometimes is can take a long time to put on, so you need to make sure you’re there in plenty of time before the performance starts.

Fancy yourself as a facial Picasso? Go on, put your name forward!
